A modern fuse box with proper protection, most fitted in a day

Fuse Box Upgrades (Consumer Units)

Your fuse box (a consumer unit, in the trade) runs all the power in your home. An old one is the weak spot we find most often. A modern board cuts the power in a split second when something goes wrong. That keeps you safe from shocks and your house safe from fire.

We test every circuit before the swap, so there are no surprises. Then we fit a good board with surge protection and label it clearly. Most swaps are done in a day and you get the certificate the same day.

What's included

Circuits tested first

Every circuit is tested before the swap, so hidden faults are found and priced up front.

A safety switch per circuit

A fault in one room trips that circuit only, so the rest of the house stays on.

Surge protection fitted

Your TV, computer and kitchen kit are guarded from power spikes.

Labelled and certified

Every circuit labelled, with the certificate and the Building Control notice done for you.

Fuse boxes questions, answered

How much does a new fuse box cost on the Isle of Wight?

Most homes on the Island pay £450 to £850 for a new consumer unit, fitted and tested. Faults found on the day or a bigger board can take it closer to £1,000. We test first, then give you one fixed price before any work starts.

How long will the power be off?

Usually a few hours in the middle of the day. We plan the swap so you are without power for as short a time as we can.

Why does my new fuse box trip when the old one never did?

A new board spots faults the old one missed. That is the protection doing its job. We test every circuit on the day, so anything it finds gets fixed properly.

Does a fuse box swap need Building Control?

Yes, it has to be notified. As an NICEIC Approved Contractor we do that for you, at no extra cost.
